Silence of the Iambs

via GIPHY What's that echoing sound? Oh, it's just the sound of your footsteps reverberating in my empty blog... Yes, I know... I have not updated in AGES! It's partly being busy, and partly being lazy... and partly not having much inspiration... Last time I posted I was in Brazil. I have of course been back for quite a while, and I had been meaning to post more but days turned to weeks, to months.. and no posts. But I am alive! However, this will not be a proper post... Just a sort of "I'm still here" post. I haven't been travelling too much, nor have I been writing much, but in the next few weeks I'm hoping to write my long awaited post on Morocco, and during April I may attempt NaPoWriMo - writing a poem a day all month long. Well, for now, goodbye - I should be back soon, I promise! via GIPHY

Barcelona Art

Image
I recently spent a weekend in Barcelona. It unfortunately rained most of the time, but that didn't stop me from gallivanting around town, sniffing out culture like a young poet, fresh off a night bus from Toulouse... Anyway, more on Barcelona will be coming soon in another post, but for now, it's blog-gallery time! By the harbour In the metro In the metro By the harbour

10 Things to See in Morocco

Image
Ten Must-Sees of Morocco Koutoubia Mosque At the end of February, I travelled to Morocco with two other bloggers: Chloe and Joy - we all currently live in the same town. Morocco had been on my travel list for quite a while, so I was very excited when the plane landed and I realised I was on Moroccan soil. I will of course be writing about various aspects of our trip, but this post will concentrate on the highlights - ten, to be exact. Enjoy! I'm in Morocco! What now? 1  If, like us, you arrive late in the evening (thanks, Orly technical glitch, for the hour and a half delay!), you will need to have dinner. Luckily, eating out is nice and cheap. Since you are saving so much money, I'm sure you won't mind slipping a few morsels of food to the local cat. I'd like extra sauce on that chicken, thanks. 2 After a good night's sleep, you don't want to linger in your hotel room! Get your camera ready and go have a stroll in the gardens...

New Blog Coming Up

Hi all.. Sorry for my rather long silence - soon I shall back to blogging, hopefully regularly. In fact, I've got a new blog coming up (on the side - this one will still exist, too). My other blog will focus on my travels and my experience teaching English to little French kids, so stay tuned! I now have three blogs - this one, the main one; my Lost in Linguistics blog about my language learning journey; and now, my travel/teaching blog. I will do my best to keep updating the main one regularly, but will also post travel and language specific posts on my other blogs. Will provide links as soon as my first post is up!

Paris, Seen Sleepless On a Winter Morning

Image
Monument au Général Koenig Paris is an impatient city, full of cars that seem to know exactly how to drive, where and when, in the confusing maze of lights and turns and strange bus lanes. There is no space for learners, no space for the tourist or the novice. A moment's hesitation at a turn, at a light, at a stop, and the line of cars formed in a half second behind you will loudly make their frustration known. A cacophony of klaxons. I saw Paris, briefly, on a cold December morning. I'd boarded a coach at Victoria station in London at 21h, which, after certain unexplained issues, left over an hour late, snaking its way through congested London streets under the English drizzle. I fell into a light-ish sleep, the state in between being awake and asleep - not quite aware, but still alert. Dover. We inched our way through the port for close to an hour. I was overcome by waves of nausea. The ferry was late due to bad weather. I got out of the coach. The wind was harsh, b...
