#16 - Poem For The Broken Hearted

I am not sure what I did here.. Even my own poetry mystifies me!

Poem For The Broken Hearted

I'm writing poetry and thinking of you.
Sometimes I see you around the river
Until you fade away - a memory.
I liked your hair tonight
You always look great,
I'm not just saying that.
I see you in touches of blue
I feel then things will be better
Honestly, I'm nearly crazy -
You were always right -
So now I just wait -
Wait, wait for what?

For now I'll just remember
These months won't last forever
And I long for the summer.
I'll meet you in the sunshine
Between cups of tea and drinks
Amongst trees and in the dusty streets.
When we walk and walk and
The day seems to last forever -
A lazy evening, and then -
It was then that we braved the river
The air was warm - an Indian summer.

The streets are marked by you
The poems carry a line
A mark, a voice of you.
It's not crazy, is it,
To feel this way?
Don't blame me but
Blame my heart.
Wretched heart.

Still, you and I both know
We prefer it that way.
How tedious to have a heart
Which plays the role of our brain!
I'll keep loving and losing -
That or never feel again.
Think of all the beauty in
All the poems would be lost
In time, like the seasons.

I'm off to the mountains
I'm living through my thoughts
And when I come back-

What, then?
I can't stay living through a dream
Can I?

  1. to only be alive in our dreams, that is a harsh reality...at least though we can dream...the streets mark, the poems carrying a line of them...i really like that part....and once you are marked by love....and loss...everything else will be marked by it...

    1. Thank you for your comment. I guess the whole poem is related to the 'better to have loved and lost than never loved at all' saying. I wondered if I really agreed with that. :)

  2. well, poets are said to think more with their hearts than with their brains. :)

    1. Yes.. this can be both good and bad.. Oh, the hard life of poets!

  3. The key message, to me, is this: "I'll keep on loving and losing, that or never feel again." Yes, do keep on......I chose the safer path - and it is a lonelier one.

    1. Thank you - yes that's the problem. Loneliness or heartache.. sometimes you have both! ;)

  4. memories are a must but lif has to be lived in the today and the plans of a hope for tomorrow

    well penned

    Happy Easter

    much love...

    1. Yes - the past is the past! Thanks for your comment :)

  5. "How tedious to have a heart
Which plays the role of our brain!"...this keesp me thinking...a nice poem....

  6. "Still, you and I both know

    We prefer it that way."

Ha! Here's the worm in the apple of romance! Falling in love with melancholy and sighs! And as for Love and Loss -- I'm here to tell you its better to have some great memories than none. Focus on the positive, yearning will fade in time because life likes life--it really does.

    1. I suppose - though I'm sure in the midst of a heartbreak those memories are more bothersome than anything.. ;)
